POSTCARDS FROM BALI

MARCH 2023. THE VERDE VACATION.

The hustle and bustle of the busy Canggu streets sets the pace of our first design trip to the beautiful, Indonesian Island of Bali.

From the get-go, we wanted to use our short time on the island to design, sample and finalise our upcoming swimwear collection. After a busy summer including the launch of Verdè, we were hoping for fresh inspiration.

From the beginning of the trip, we hit the ground running. Neither the torrential March rain nor the start of Bali Belly were able to slow us down, as we were eagerly scootered our way from one side of the island to the other on a mission to source the finest materials and craftsmen to help bring our vision to fruition.

Over the past few years, Bali has really made a name for itself in the swimwear industry and has become a haven for all things related.

Before our trip to Bali, we had a clear concept of what the upcoming collection would look and feel like. However, until you can see the samples and feel the fabric (in all its tactile glory) you never can be sure of how they will turn out.

So, off we ventured to the island’s capital, Denpasar, to visit our production team, with our beautiful fit model Anastasia in tow.

It’s always a nerve-wracking, yet exciting experience, to see your vision be translated from sketches, measurements, and conversations to actual physical garments. As expected, the first lot of samples were far from perfect, so it was back to the drawing board to make some amendments to the design and fit of the garments to get them perfected and ready for production.

Over this time, we spent our remaining days in Bali working closely with our production team and Gojeking the updated samples to and from The Lawn Beach Club, to be discussed over icy margaritas and fresh ceviche (the only appropriate setting for business meetings).

Until eventually, the time came for us to leave our tropical sanctuary with our collection still very much a work in progress and head home to a much cooler Melbourne.

We were leaving Bali with what we had gone there to get, a fresh tan, fresh inspiration & a very fresh collection in the works, plus a whole heap of work to be done upon our return home!

It wouldn’t be a Verde girls’ trip if there wasn’t a lot of pleasure mixed in amongst the business, so we wanted to share a few of our favourite Bali recommendations.

EAT

Canggu is where it’s at for the most delicious food. Try Yuki for some incredible Japanese and a vibrant outdoor atmosphere or Skool kitchen where everything is cooked over an open fire.

PLAY

There’s no doubt that Bali knows how to throw a good party! We highly suggest that you book the latest available time slot at Luigi’s Hot Pizza Canggu on a Monday night, order yourself a drink and a pizza and wait for the party to begin. You’ll be dancing on the table in no time!

If dancing on a table isn’t for you and taking it easy is more your pace, you must book in at Bodyworks in Seminyak. The Rose Gua Sha facial is heavenly! Bonus points for the gorgeous interiors of the space.

EXPLORE

As far as we’re concerned, Uluwatu has our heart and is a must stop destination when visiting Bali. Explore the insanely beautiful beaches and cliff faces or stop by a beach club for a sunset margarita (hint we love Palmilla).

OUTFIT OF THE TRIP

We can’t wait to share more with you!
